Translation
Folio:
(It was) the year 483, the month Hurezhn and the day Risht, when (this)
sealed document, (this) . . . contract (concerning) a trust(?) (in return) for service rendered, was written here in Lizg, at
the court of the fortress, in the presence of the god Wakhsh, the king of gods, the granter of favours (and) granter of wishes, who
has (his) seat in Lizg, and in the presence of Hilitber, the leader of the people of Lizg, and also
in the presence of the other freemen (and) witnesses who
have written (their names as) witnesses (to this) sealed document, (this) . . . contract, on the other signed document,
and (who) have placed (their) seals hereupon. It so happens that you, Babay, and you, Abgas,
and you, Zhulad Gozgan, the sons of Kanag, inhabitants of Lizg, my own servants,
serve me, Aspring Kanduran Urbiyan lord of Lizg, exerting yourselves
well and willingly, and I (am) fully satisfied in respect of your obligations;
so now, (in return) for (your) willing service and for (your) strenuous exertions, I have vouchsafed
and given to you (sg.!) the . . . and impost(?), . . . and . . ., here in the town of Lizg,
which will be your (sg.!) own, on this condition, that a third (share of) the . . . and impost(?) and . . ., (apart)(?) from Hilitber’s and
from Khay-bet’s (shares), shall belong to you, Babay,
yourself, with (your) brothers and with (your) descendants, so that no-one shall have the right to dispute (with you) or detain you (pl.).
And now, if (it should) so (happen that) from tomorrow
or at (any) future time (there should be) anyone who should fight you, Babay, and
you, Abgas, and you, Zhulad Gozgan, or your (pl.) brothers, sons (and)
descendants concerning the benefit described herein, (namely) the . . . and the impost(?)—(if) anyone
(should fight you), or should dispute anything (with you), (or) should invoke the law (or) cause litigation, (or) produce another contract or sealed document,
(whether) an old or a new (one), then the claim (and) argument of all the claimants and
what is produced in (place of) (?) this contract shall not be (considered) valid and authoritative in court, and also
whatever claimant may arise (shall) pay a fine to the judicial treasury of five hundred dirhams of (king) Kawad,
and also he shall pay five hundred dirhams of (king) Kawad to you, Babay, and to your brothers,
sons (and) descendants. And after the fine has been paid, may this sealed document,
(this) . . . contract, (still) be (considered) good (and) potent and valid (and) authoritative as is
written herein.
