Content

Fragment of a legal document. One possible scenario is that it is a loan acknowledgement of 1,000 mann of grain given by Shujāʿ al-Dīn Ibrāhīm. The loan is valued at 30 dinars and 5.5 dāng. Another possibility is that the acknowledger borrowed 1,000 mann of grain and 30 dinars and 5.5 dāng. Only one witness name survives in this fragment (Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. Ḥusayn, the farmer).

بتاریخ بیست سه ام ماه جمادی الاخر سنه [+/- ؟] 5
6 هم [بـ]ـرین جمله قبول کرد و کتبه محمد علی حسین برزگر بامره  وکـ[ـتبه (؟) +/- ؟] 
Translation
Folio:
1 I shall deliver one thousand mann of grain to [+/- ?]
2 to (?) the commander Shujāʿ al-Dīn Ibrāhīm [+/- ?] 
3 [at the rate of] for 30 dinars [and] five dāngs and a half [+/- ?] 
4 Whenever he asks for it back, I shall return it [+/- ?] 
5 It is dated twenty-third of the month of Jumādā II of the year [+/- ?]
6 He accepted it thus. It was written at the instruction of Muḥammad [b.] ʿAlī [b.] Ḥusayn the farmer. It was written [+/- ?]
