Content

This is a land sale contract concerning 40 juft of land, i.e. 144,000 m2 in Istīw. The land being sold by Khwāja Abū Bakr was adjacent to the estates of his sons. Three of the seller’s sons are witnesses. An additional note is inserted in the right margin by another hand, referring to the sale of another 22 juft of land in Shaʿbān 610, which is one month prior to the transaction in the main body of the text.

 بسم اللَّه الرَّحمن الرَّحیمْ  1
اقرار کرد خواجه ابی بکر الحسین بشیر (؟) از قصبه استیو سابوران 2
وقت اقرار بقریه رباط عبدالله در حال تندرستی و ثبات 3
عقل طایع و راغب بی اکراهی و اجباری بران جمله کی بفروخت  4
چهل جفت زمین کوهی از کوهای قصبه استیو از نواحی  5
چابک راغ کی آنرا استنوی بیک (؟) خواند مر خواجه محمد ابرهیم  6
علی را بیک دینار چهار دانگ زر عین بخاری (؟) کی نیمه بود  7
پنج دانگ بچهار حد حد اول مشتری و حد دوام حسین 8
محمد ابی بکر اندربگی (؟) و حد سه ام محمد علی محمد عمر و حد چهارم محمد  9
یعقوب خواجه ابی بکر حسین بشیر (؟) بفروخت و بها تمام 10
یافت و درک ضمان قبول کرد اگر مدعی آید بجای دیگر جواب  11

Translation
Folio:
1 In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate.
2 Khwāja Abī Bakr b. al-Ḥusayn b. Bashīr (?), from the town of Istīw of Sābūrān, has acknowledged that
3 at the time of acknowledgement, in the village Ribāṭ ʿAbd Allāh, in a state of sound body and
4  mind, willfully and of his own volition, without coercion or force, sold the following:
5 forty juft of mountainous land in the mountains of the town of Istīw, in the proximity of
6 Chābuk-rāgh which is known as Istanwī-Bayk (?), to Khwāja Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm 
7 b. ʿAlī for one Bukhārī gold dinar and four dāngs, half of which 
8 makes five dāngs. The four boundaries [are of this land]: the first boundary [is adjacent to] to the buyer’s [estate]; the second boundary [is adjacent to
9 the property of] Ḥusayn b. Muḥammad b. Abī Bakr Andarabigī; the third boundary is [adjacent to the property of] Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. Muḥammad b. ʿUmar; and the fourth boundary is [adjacent to the property of] Muḥammad b. 
10 Yaʿqūb. Khwāja Abī Bakr b. Ḥusayn b. Bashīr (?) sold [it] and received the full price.
11 He accepted the guarantee against defect in title. If anyone else claims the land, he [the seller] and not [the buyer] shall be responsible for handling [that claim],
12 and if he cannot, then he must pay back the money for the land. He [the buyer] order this document
13 to be written so that [it may serve] as proof when necessary. The date is the 
14 26th of the blessed month of Ramaḍān, may God heighten its honour,
15 in the year 610.
16 (Right margin, in a different hand:) Khwāja Abū Bakr also sold another twenty-two juft of land to Khwāja Muḥammad and received the full price in the month of Shaʿbān in the year 610.
