In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate.
May all the days, times and hours
of the illustrious, honourable, generous and fortunate sifahsālār,
Asad al-Dawla wal-Dīn, the warrior of Islam
and of the Muslims, be prosperous, blessed and auspicious.
[May] God almighty [be your] helper and defender.
[This] praying one is continuously acknowledging the favours
made by your office, and praying day and night for the rule
of your family.
May [these prayers] be answered, by [the intercession of] Muḥammad and his family.
A plea is being made for one garment,
for the chill has set in and this praying one is weak,
and possessed no other article [of clothing].
Also, it would be unseemly to appear on the city’s pulpit on a Friday
[dressed] in tatters.
Margin: May he forgive the bluntness [of this request].
