Content

Debt acknowledgement concerning a sum of five dinars. This is one of the few Arabic documents from the 11th-to-13th century documents coming from Afghanistan. The scribe identifies himself after the date clause, which is followed by five additional witness clauses.

فی [+ 1] البدن الرای (؟) اتم (؟) اقرارا (?) طایعا راضیا فی حال 3
جواز اقراره ان علیه وفی ذمته (؟) للشیخ محمد بن ابراهیم بن علی 4
من [+ 2] الجاریة خمسة دنانیر نصفها دینارین 5
ونصف دینار وزن مثقال بلخ دینا واجبا لازما ثابتا 6
وهو عين ماله على امانة (؟) الله (؟) ومحلته مضی خمسة اشهر من 7
تاریحه وصدقه علیه (؟) التاسع من ذی الحجة سنه 8

Translation
Folio:
1 In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate.
2 Muḥammad b. Muḥammad b. Maḥmūd, the amīr (?), who dwells in the quarter of Takht-Band in Balkh,
3 in [sound ?] body [and] mind (?), voluntarily [and] willingly,
4 legally capable of acknowledgement, the following: he owes the shaykh Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm b. ʿAlī,
5 [a sum of] five dinars, half of which is two and a half dinars, in the current [... + 2],
6 in the mithqāl weight of Balkh. [It is] a binding, obligatory and definitive debt.
7 It [should be repaid] at the equivalent value (?), with God’s protection. The [repayment] is due within five months from
8 the date of [this document]. He corroborated his [acknowledgement on the date of] the 9th of Dhū al-Ḥijja in the year 610.
9 Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. ʿUmar, the turner, acknowledged this and wrote it in his hand.
10 Aḥmad b. ʿUbayd Allāh b. Aḥmad acknowledged this and wrote it in his hand. Abū Ṭālib b. [A]bī al-Ḥasan b. al-Ḥasan, the [+ 1], acknowledged this and wrote it in his hand (?).
11   ʿUmar b. [A]bī Bakr b. ʿAlī acknowledged it and wrote it in his hand.
12   Abū al-Ḥasan b. al-Ḥusayn b. Muḥammad acknowledged this voluntarily and wrote it in his hand.
13 Muḥammad b. ʿUmar b. ʿAlī acknowledged this and wrote it in his hand.  
14   ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn b. Muḥammad acknowledged what is herein and wrote it in his hand.
